Rainbow Brite, Mermaids and Christmas

We had a most lovely and luscious chocolate-filled day yesterday... the best Christmas in a long time.

One of our traditions (cheap & fun) is that we make it snow inside. My love made the most awesome snowflakes to hang, and we always spread the cuttings all over the floor. It's magical.

For our presents, we wrapped them in newspaper, white yarn, and these AMAZING tags made by The Black Apple, that I had printed on cardstock and cut out: It was great fun!

My parents sent the most amazing Mongolian things for each of us!
For the Hubby: Some wool slippers with a camel applique (made by taking the wool from their sheep, spreading it out, tamping it down and covering with water multiple times, then rolling up in big sheets. They then cut it to size and make all sorts of things out of it!)

For me: A beautiful purse made from Kazakhstan.

For Kaleid: A lovely light purple hat

For Hazel: These AMAZING boots
that I WISH they made in adult sizes... she was wearing her Rainbow Brite outfit, and they were AWESOME!! She also got a rainbow brite and Snow White (THANK YOU D.I.!) that I sharpied/doctored the face of, it was just too boring.

I didn't get my dolls done, but they're in the works, and I'll post pictures soon. I'm happy with how they're turning out, though they're different than I planned.

We got tons of other wonderful things.... and feel like we've got SO MUCH to be grateful for. It's amazing... we feel very loved.

Today I've been in a very strange, lovely, moss-covered mood... so, I decided it's a very mermaid day. I'm listening to Pandora, the radio station I created was of Mariee Sioux... maybe as close as I can get to the mood I feel. And here are some pictures I found that I liked to go along with the mood:

I also knew that if I posted about not having finished my stripes, that would give me the kick I needed to finish them. So, they're finished!

Pix for the last post

Things unfinished and undone

I have MANY projects I have yet to finish.

One of them is my striped wall. I'm almost done, I've got 6 stripes left to paint. And then I'll be possibly aging it all with the Ralph Lauren glaze I have, and used around my front door on the caremel-colored walls. But I'm not sure I'll be doing that... I was considering doing some very faint stenciled characters on the stripes.... but, I don't know if I want to... the stripes are rather nice without them. Plus, my mother-in-law (landlord) may not be so down. So, we'll see. The good thing is, I'm still working on it... ever improving (or of a mind to do so).

The thing I love about decorating/painting is that... I HAVE to do it. Seriously. I get depressed if I can't do anything to my living environment. It makes me happy, though I do indeed realize it's just 'stuff'.

I also have not even finished ONE doll yet. It's my own fault... I put it off, and then started my painting project.

And no teepee yet. So, that might have to be a present for early next year randomness.

But I did find an amazingly cool adjustable dress form at the DI for $35, and saw online that it's worth almost 10 times that.... LOVE IT. So, I've got it all dressed up in the corner of the stripes area... I'll put up a picture. It's got my old fur cape on, with my owl necklace, and a dress I SADLY am a bit too plump to fit into. That dress is now on sale in my etsy shop. We'll see if I sell it.

I'm definitely trying to get these dolls done in time... we'll see. It will probably just be my kids' dolls done. I'll do mine and the hubby's later. I'll post pictures when I'm done, though they're not gonna be that cool for my first doll foray. I'm not as talented a seamstress as a lot of other people, but that's definitely not something stopping me. Level of talent doesn't really matter to me... just that I do it.

OH! And... heavenly dark chocolate treat for the day/week? Le Petit Ecolier, Extra Dark Chocolate.... Ohhhhhh....

Sick... sick.... sick...

Been sick lately.... my whole family. Not so fun. I feel like an old man with a smoker's hack.

The baby potty training is put on hold for a bit... I'm not having much energy from this sickness, and it's hard to devote time to it. So, we'll see.

Ever notice that I jump around a lot on subjects? That's because I get bored. I know, you'd never expect that from ME, huh? (satyrical wink)

Just watched a documentary about Walmart... ech. I strongly dislike them. My stomach is turning just thinking about them...

Ah, L'amour....

Watched this on Netflix:

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I could die... it's just so romantic and visually captivating. So french. I adored everything about it... It made me want to put up loud french wallpaper and parasols...

Baby Potty Training

OK, I have this friend who is potty training her 8 month old. Yep, you heard it right. And I was definitely skeptical, but she's having success!

I've been thinking about this a lot, and the only two reasons I can think of to not try it is:

1-I don't know if I could do it

2-(and this is weird) but I like the concept of changing my baby's diapers... like a romantic baby thing.

Definitely stupid reasons. Not valid at all, especially when the reasons TO try it are many. So, I think I'll be trying it. Wish me luck.
