It Happened One Night

I have always wanted to see this movie, so when I found it for immediate play on Netflix, I made sure to watch it!! Apparently, when this movie first came out, the t-shirt business lost a TON of money because Clark Gable didn't have one under his dress shirt before he took it off.

Anyways, I just love the character of Clark Gable, because he's so clever and witty.... there are so many interesting lines in the show, not like movies today. I hate it when the audience is treated like it's stupid... I want clever movies!

I just LOVE Claudette Colbert's eyebrows... it looks like she shaves them and paints them on high and soft, like a porcelain doll... LOVE it.

FREE Sewing Patterns!!

Here's an awesome site, with some great sewing patterns, copyright free and mostly free for download...

Burda Style

My favorite pattern (though I'm not talented enough to sew it) is THIS coat:

I REALLY want to do some sewing today, but... alas, the house is too messy. And I need to work on some more sketches for the childrens' book.

Relief Society Birthday Party

WARNING: This is a very long, and very possibly annoying post, so... there ya go. I really don't care.

So, on Tuesday, I was asked to help the committee with this year's Relief Society Birthday Party. The theme was "The Good Old Days", and we spent the better part of two months collecting old vintage clothes, pictures and memorabilia from the ladies in our ward. From there, we decided on doing a fashion show with a few songs and fun things/jokes added in. My incredible sister from another life wrote the script for the show (using bare bones from one somebody else started) and we had the most AMAZING time... I WISH my mom would've been able to go!! I even had two of her dresses on display (she handmade both of them!) The ladies didn't have much in the way of vintage stuff, so I used quite a bit of my own, but it was so fun!! We even had dinner, and our handsome, suited-up husbands served it to us!! How CUTE is that??

So, HERE comes the big description of the show, with pictures, (but the pictures DON'T do it justice!)

My friend was hosting, and with each decade, she had a different hat to wear! It was great!

We started it out with two young girls doing the Charleston (I had SO much fun doing their 20's makeup!) followed by a model in a 20's outfit, a talented lady sang "Second-Hand Rose" from Funny Girl, and then came the 30's models, followed by "America the Beautiful".

The 40's girl came out dressed in fur and satin, joined by (of course!) Rosie the Riveter. Then I was asked to fill in (in a trio) for someone who dropped out doing the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". We even had cute little Army hats to wear!

Then we had four of the women get up and hoola hoop to Annette Funacello's song "Pineapple Princess" (my friend came up with all these darling things!!) and it was freaking HILARIOUS, because they couldn't get them to stay up!!

We next had the 50's (one of the girls wore this AMAZINGLY stunning ballerina-ish wedding dress with a red bolero, red lipstick, white gloves, and a red velvet and polka-dot netted hat, and she looked just like Barbie!! I got to wear my cat eye glasses, a poodle skirt, tennis shoes (couldn't find saddle) and a letterman jacket. A girl came out and did the jitterbug with her husband, SO fun!

Somewhere in there we had a recreation of the Mickey Mouse Club.

Next came the 60's, big flower polyester dresses and go-go boots... Rowr!

After that, well, we had... ELVIS!! One of the husbands came out and sang two songs, and he was GOOD!!! Of course, he HAD to have a silk scarf wiped across his forehead and thrown at his wife!

For the 70's, we had a disco dance-off, with some awesome bellbottoms and disco dresses being modeled.

The 80's was pretty RAD, with some MEAN side-ponytails and of COURSE, a lip-synched "Video Killed the Radio Star" complete with 80's plastic guitars and drums... and SHADES.

My Doc Martens came out of the closet for the 90's grunge look, and my friend lent me the most GORGEOUS black beaded sheath to sing the theme from Titanic.

It was SO much fun.... so if ANY of you are interested in doing this for your own ward, I have access to the script and all the silly, fun stuff with it!
