The Glamourai

I discovered this blog about a month or two ago, and it kinda kills me how right up my alley she always is... or atleast close to it. We love the same color schemes, the same monochromatic, loud patterns used excessively, the same big flashy jewelry (I albeit probably look trashier, considering my penchant for old lady mumus sometimes)... but her hair is always AMAZING. She recently cut her bangs into the V that I used to have two or more years ago, and it looked SO stunning I had to do it as well. And now she's sporting these blonde sides that are just KILLING me... they go so well with her gold jewelry (that she consequently makes & sells herself)... I'm trying to keep myself from doing that as well.
It's weird... I don't pride myself on copying somebody's style, but she is definitely one I am keeping my eye on.

Leopard print and Sagan

I recently went to the Salvation Army in Ogden (Grant Ave. and like, 24th), and scored bigtime, like I usually do there. They get Target donations every week; so if you're EVER looking for shoes and belts and purses from Target and would rather pay $3 for them instead of $25, GO THERE. I found these AMAZING leopard print Mossimo flats for $3!!! Plus, I found a royal blue patent clutch purse for the same price, similar to these bags:

Next, I found a 1960's leopard dressing gown, with a Peter Pan collar trimmed in Black Velvet. I'm having a hard time taking it off--I wear it open belted over black and white stripes during the day, and buttoned as a nighty at night. It makes me feel like I'm in the movie "Auntie Mame" or something. HOPEFULLY it doesn't make me look like THIS LADY:

This is entirely random, but it was so cool I just HAD to share:

Whoa... WICKED shoe DIY...

I am SPEECHLESS that the redheaded girl did all that work to make those shoes from just some basic maryjane platforms... They are definitely amazing, and though I would be scared to wear them, it's pretty amazing to see something that impressive. Hair...

Why is it that hair is such a part of my identity?? When I was a blonde, it didn't last very long because I felt like I wasn't myself. It's just dead follicles.... But right now, because I haven't dyed it since shaving my head over the summer, it's my natural color. And though most people are fine with that, and some people have told me they like my natural color, it's just NOT ME. Every week it's either I'm obsessed with bleaching it out and toning it to a lovely silvery gray, or I want it the regular black that I've been doing for years. I think I'm just addicted to being able to change it... and all of a sudden I have stage fright to do anything to it, because I'm trying to grow it out.

This picture was from last winter, when my friend Heather went black for a moment with some blonde at the front... and she changed it back to pure blonde almost immediately because it wasn't her... I had some sort of black fringe around the edges, and I didn't mind it...

I think my fascination with short hair is that I relate it to attitude and non-conformity.... EVERYONE has long hair. Plus, considering my plus-size mommy body, having attitude helps me to fight the fear of looking like... a mom? Is that terrible? Is it even avoidable when you've got some weight to lose, and are 30 or older?

But I think I still have to grow it out, because doing something (mostly) just because it's against the grain is lame. I don't like to gauge my style around what most people around me are doing, for or against. I'm just taking it too dang seriously, because really, I'M the only one who mostly cares what I look like anyways... why does it matter??

New shoes and DIYs

I always have fun doing creative stuff, however usually I only make one of something, and like it too much... so I don't sell it. I really need to get out of that habit!! I was feeling SUPER ornery yesterday, and realized last night that I really needed to do something creative. I get that way--it's like a weird addiction!

Anyways, I found this AWESOME lady's blog: The Glamourai, and made that DIY necklace (plus a bit of change) last night. I'm wearing it right now, and I LOVE IT. Maybe I'll make more and sell them?

I've been patiently awaiting the shoes I ordered the other day in the mail, and they came today... SO LOVE THEM!! They're from a website called Urban Originals, and they've got much more to choose from than a local store; plus their prices are decent. I'm STOKED to wear them!!

I've been adoring Rihanna's hair for a very long time, but I think I am really done with short hair. (Of course, I'll say that, and then I'll see something I really love more than long hair and chop it in the middle of the night!!) Here's to hoping I can grow it out finally!!!

****************************

Went to the midwife's place today to make sure the baby is growing well, and she's a chunk!! She's already 10 lbs 2 oz, and that is AWESOME!! This means that her frenulum clipping made a difference, and she's getting PLENTY to eat!! Yay!! She's got scarlet painted nails on, of course!!

Jason got a sizeable grant to attend SLCC, and started on Monday. He was able to pick himself up a shiny new MacBook with the extra, and that's good--he'll need it for all the classes he's taking. His eyes glaze over when using it, that must mean he likes it!! It was his birthday last Friday, and we had a really fun Birthday Weekend... Birthdays are over too quickly. So, we made mini cupcakes, made paper crowns, and just had fun being lazy and spending time with eachother before the weekend was out. I'm SO grateful for him--he's WONDERFUL!!

Hazel is doing well, too--she's currently asking me to go to the D.I. right now... "D.I.!! D.I.!!" She decided she was ready to potty train the other week. Not the best timing, but... can't possibly hold her back, just because I have a newborn! And she saw her friend using the REAL potty yesterday, so she won't use her toddler's potty... but that's fine with me!! I don't have to clean it out!!

Kaleid's sporting a fun mohawk these days, and is doing really well in school, though he has lots of free time to be bored... (WHY is it that being bored as a kid is SO HARD?? I'd give ANYTHING to have the TIME to be bored!!)

Hope this post finds everyone well!!
