True Beauty

I cannot, for the life of me, claim to be a very beautiful person most of the time... however, I've definitely had moments where I have felt TRULY beautiful.

This is something I've been asked to help the young women in my ward with, tonight. It's a very difficult thing for all women-- we ALL want to attain it, we all feel we have shortcomings, etc. And while I spend WAY WAY WAY too much time perusing fashion magazines and blogs and things, deep inside me, I KNOW how to get it. And I know that I can keep it, nomatter how much weight I gain, how old I get, or how much (or little) hair I have, and how much or little makeup I wear. It is MUCH harder to see this kind of beauty in myself, but I believe I can DEFINITELY see it in others around me, and it is inspiring, to say the least.

I have told my husband how hot he is, especially when he has made the right kinds of decisions in his life. Being honest is a talent I think he has, and I find it extremely attractive. I also see his immense kindness and lack of anger/rage as a HUGE turn-on, and adore him for it. These are only a couple of things I see in him...

In many of my friends and family, I see love and concern for others and selflessness--those things make them so beautiful to me... All the makeup and fashion and glamour is FUN, but it definitely DOESN'T hide the lack of light and love, when it's not there. Case in point: Some of the ugliest people I have ever seen (pictures of) are celebrities, mainly those feeding their own lives with addiction, abuse and darkness. The world LOVES to praise them for their beauty, but it's pretty twisted when the most "beautiful" people are crack addicts so skinny that the clothes they wear swirl around them like they are human clothes-hangers. I don't care if you have hot pink hair, a full sleeve tattoo, or anything... those things are no indication to me if you are a beautiful person or not. Most people I know who have tattoos and pink hair (examples, of course) are some of the kindest and coolest people I know. A lot of them have been through a lot of struggles in their lives, and have come out as incredibly strong examples of facing adversity and winning.

How to be TRULY BEAUTIFUL

* For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others.
* For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness.
* And for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

"But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)

Fashiony Stuff

I'll probably FOREVER love vintage things, and though I'm mostly into black and white lately, here are a few colorful vintage-y lovelies to catch your eye:

(images from Dear Creatures)

I ADORE their super 60's pop/mod makeup with the gigantuan lashes and brows... And I (of course) love the birds and outdoorsy themes.

HERE is an AMAZING online magazine I just found called Sesame... LOVE it!!

And another online mag, more vintage-y and catered towards dime-store budgets (ALWAYS MY IDEAL): N.E.E.T. MAGAZINE

*******

I just picked up the Halloween Martha Stewart Magazine, which I HAD to have after all of last year's SWEET ideas from it. I created a "Deathly Apothecary" scene:

I really like the little silhouettes she has for download (as templates) on her site:

MICE TEMPLATE

I printed them out with our cheapy d.i. printer, then cut them out, but they have curled a bit, and I think I better redo them on black construction paper.

I just LOVE being able to create--it helps me focus on positive things instead of wallowing in trials... I'm a selfish person, and I definitely need to work on that. But anything I can do to combat it I think is good.

OH!!! ANOTHER cute, quirky vintage bloggy/site: A Beautiful Mess!!

It Happened One Night

I have always wanted to see this movie, so when I found it for immediate play on Netflix, I made sure to watch it!! Apparently, when this movie first came out, the t-shirt business lost a TON of money because Clark Gable didn't have one under his dress shirt before he took it off.

Anyways, I just love the character of Clark Gable, because he's so clever and witty.... there are so many interesting lines in the show, not like movies today. I hate it when the audience is treated like it's stupid... I want clever movies!

I just LOVE Claudette Colbert's eyebrows... it looks like she shaves them and paints them on high and soft, like a porcelain doll... LOVE it.
